PERFORMING

Joanna began her performing life as a sports acrobatics gymnast competing at a high level nationally and internationally. She then moved to the National Centre for Circus arts as a teenager where she performed flying trapeze and acrobatics and was directed by Ockhams Razor and Jasmin Vardimon. She then completed various professional circus training courses such as GFORC at Circocan in Brazil and the professional intensive at Circus Warehouse NYC. Here Joanna studied cyr wheel, aerial silks and hoop, chinese pole and hand to hand. On her return to the UK Joanna took up doubles swinging trapeze with her acrobatic partner Lauren Jamieson and co-founded Sonder Circus http://sondercircus.co.uk/ with Lauren and Ashley Smith. The trio spent 2019 developing their debut production Cailleach in which Joanna performes cyr wheel, chinese pole, acrobatics and doubles swinging trapeze. In 2021 they made a film version of this show which has played at various festivals. Joanna has also performed aerial and acrobatics for other companies. She performed silks and acted as Karen and the palace cat in Shotgun Carousel’s immersive show https://shotguncarousel.co.uk/ The Red Palace at the Vaults UK. (24th September 2019 - 12th Jan 2020) and Bride for Sonder Circus in 2021 and for various private and events companies such as aerial edge and at Giffords circus HQ in 2022. In October 2022 she performed for Layla Rosa’s Topsy Turvey Circus as part of Coney Agencies The Golden Key in the Roman amphitheatre ruins at the Guildhall, and has performed at Braserie Zedel’s New years Eve spectacular for Shotgun Carousel the last few years.
