DIRECTING

Joanna started directing theatre at Cambridge University and after her sell out Edinburgh fringe show show Alice, a multidisciplinary re-telling of Alice in Wonderland, she founded her circus company The Feathers of Daedalus Circus. She has received numerous Arts Council England grants for her theatre productions and has also been supported by the National Centre for Circus Arts, the OSO theatre, Jacksons Lane, Aircraft, Circocan and Mimbre. She made various shows in the UK and Brazil over 7 years, most recently she was a co-creator of Narcissus by Ruby Wednesday which won the VAULT festival After Dark Award 2023. In the pandemic she began directing films and music videos. Her first two films PartUs and KingDom were Arts Council England funded and have played at festivals around the world. She has directed many music videos for indie artist Now Ex, her video Spitits In The City being nominated for Best Music Video at the Female Filmmakers Festival Berlin. In 2023 she directed her short film Eternal Hourglass which played at BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals, and in 2024 won the analog film fund from For The Silver Screen for Mother Goose. Joanna has directed various award winning actors such as Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Lydia West (It’s a Sin). She is a member of BAFTA connect and is currently developing her debut feature VENUS , an adaptation of Exquisite Corpse by Kirsty Logan produced by Disauthorty and co-written with Zia Holloway.
